The Importance of Goal Setting

“You need a plan to build a house. To build a life, it is even more important to have a plan or goal.”

Setting goals is a great way to give yourself direction and provide focus and motivation. It is the important first step to successful goal achievement. It marks the starting point towards success and is a reminder of what you need to accomplish.

I have only been managing my life through goals in the last five years and it has changed the way I think, work and live my life. You HAVE to plan your year, month and day in order to be productive and get things done.

 Reasons for setting goals

  • Makes you accountable
  • Ensures you make the most of your life and be the best you can be
  • Helps you believe in yourself
  • Makes you excited to get up in the morning
  • Gives you clarity on what you want to do
  • Makes you focus on what is important

Getting Started

Just take a moment, take a break and just START. You are important, your life is important, so take a bit of time to spend on you. Think back on your life, specifically the last few years and what you have or have not achieved.  Look at it through these 4 areas and decide what you want to maintain, improve and change-

  1. Physical/ Health
  2. Family/ Social
  3. Work/ Finance
  4. Spiritual

Think about what is really important to you and focus on those first. What is at the top of your mind, what do you think about the most? What do you love, what would you love to be doing? What do you want to be, do and have?

Then put to pen to paper and right them all down. As human behaviour specialist Dr John Demartini says, “A short pencil is better than a long memory.” Decide on your goals and then put a plan of action together to achieve them. Break the plan down into smaller manageable chunks so that you do not feel overwhelmed.

Read through them every week, tweak, them, refine them or add to them. Life evolves and changes and your goals can change with it

We are all capable of so much more than we think we are, so use this as a starting point to achieving great things.

What are your plans? What are some of the goals you would like to achieve?

YESSSSS! I believe goals are important – the small ones that are in line with THE BIG ONE. Because once you make it to the small or any goal, you should have another in place, otherwise you will go bored or somehow unmotivated to do things. One should not be in a comfort zone 🙂
