The Cape Town International Kite Festival 2024 is here, and we are looking forward to it. It’s not often in Cape Town that you can look forward to a windy day to fly kites.
This colourful event combines the joys of kite flying with an inspiring purpose, making it the perfect outing for families, friends, and anyone looking to support a meaningful cause in a great setting. Whether you’re a seasoned kite enthusiast or simply want to enjoy a day outdoors in the fresh air, here’s everything you need to know about this event.
So, What’s It All About?
The Cape Town International Kite Festival, hosted by Cape Mental Health, is a celebration that goes beyond just kite flying. Known as “Hope on a String,” the festival is centred around raising awareness and support for mental health, with all proceeds going directly toward mental health services and programs in South Africa. With various kites dotting the sky and activities for every age, it’s a fantastic way to spend a day outdoors while making a positive impact. Each kite in the air represents hope, unity, and a commitment to breaking down stigmas surrounding mental health.
When and Where?
This year, the festival will take place on Sunday, 27 October 2024, from 10H00 to 15H00. The location is Melkbosstrand Beach, a stunning seaside spot where you can enjoy the best of Cape Town’s coastal scenery while witnessing breathtaking displays of kite artistry from local and international flyers alike.
More Than Just Kites
In addition to awe-inspiring kite shows, expect live music, food stalls, kite-making workshops, and family-friendly activities. With every ticket sold, Cape Mental Health can provide essential services to individuals with mental health challenges.
